This week, we’re talking about body armor. It’s one of those things that, if you’ve never thought about it before, it’s easy to ask, “why would anyone NEED body armor?” I would argue that it’s a great addition to any emergency preparedness plan. Whether it’s a light panel slipped into your laptop bag, put into the liner of your child’s backpack, something you wear out to the shooting range, or a plate carrier by the night stand as part of your “bump in the night” strategy, body armor is relatively inexpensive piece of mind. Whatever your political leanings, I think we can all agree that there are evil people in the world intent on doing bad things. Unfortunately, shootings, terrorist attacks, and home invasions affect every-day people and don’t seem likely to stop. To me, it just makes sense to own some ballistic defense.
I recently got my hands on a couple of body armor samples from our friends at Mountain West Protective Solutions mwpsarmor.com and we put these plates to the test with a variety of common handgun rounds. With the III+ plate, we even tried .223 and 7.62 rifle rounds.
